Frequently Asked Questions:

What is travel soccer?

Travel soccer provides an opportunity to compete against a different level of competition and a different set of teams. Teams typically compete against other clubs within the state of Indiana rather than teams within the same community. There are multiple levels of competition within travel as each club works to field a team to the highest ability. Games are usually within a 2 hour drive and each season typically has 6-8 games - half home and half away. Travel soccer is a full year commitment.

How much does travel soccer cost?

Travel soccer fees range from $550 - $900 depending on the age of the team and for teams from U11 through U18. The fees cover registration with the state, referees, trainers and coaches and field maintenance. Players also are required to purchase a travel uniform kit. Uniforms are replaced on a 2 year cycle as a club. Teams may choose to participate in one or a second tournament each season and the cost is divided among the number of players participating on the team. Tournaments are available throughout Indiana as well as the surrounding states. Scholarships and financial assistance are available for those you qualify.  For details on our fee schedule and financial assistance click here

What are travel team’s practice schedules like?

Teams typically practice 2-3 times per week during the seasons (Fall and Spring). Teams will also practice over the winter as well, but only once per week. The winter sessions are held in local gyms or indoor soccer facilities. The fall season starts in early August and ends in early November. The winter sessions will begin after the New Year and go until mid March. The spring season starts in mid March and ends in early June.

When are tryouts?

Travel teams will have a tryout session each year in June. During these tryouts the players will be evaluated by participating in soccer scrimmages, soccer drills, and understanding of the game. Depending on the number of players at tryouts, teams will be formed based on the evaluations at tryouts and how many teams can be formed at each level. Often there will be smaller supplemental tryouts in November to fill gaps which may have developed over the Fall season.

Where do I get my player’s uniforms?

Uniforms are purchased every two years and consist of a home jersey, road jersey, shorts, socks, and a couple practice jerseys. Costs can vary, but generally are around $100. Before ever ordering new gear with a number, it is always advisable to confirm your jersey number with the club. Fan or spirit wear is also available. What are “Skills Practices”?

Skills practices are where players of all ages will come together to work with Club trainer's on individual skills. They will generally focus on either individual footskills or goalkeeper skills depending upon the players wishes.

Do players who play travel soccer also sometimes play other sports?

With Boilers FC there are a large number of kids who participate in other activities besides soccer. Some kids only participate in soccer during the fall and spring and play another sport in the winter. Others will play different sports, or be involved in other activities at the same time they are playing soccer. In any case the club encourages parents and players to work with individual coaches to create the balance they seek and for the kids to develop with soccer as part of their life.
